It was named after the card game "Blitz" which I used to play as a kid
(also known as "Dutch Blitz"). The name of that card game might come from
"blitz" in the sense of lightning as Ekkehard suggests.. At one point I
heard that some people thought "Blitz++" was an allusion to blitzkrieg,
which was definitely not my intention. It didn't help that the blitz logo
at that time (a wave equation simulation) looked a bit like an explosion
because of the "hot colour" scheme. I changed the colours to "cool blue"
colours because of that. :)
