Alaska is mostly known for its oil, natural gas, fish and seafood industries. The big employers in the state operate in those fields and the colleges have tailored their offerings to cater to those industries.
The population of Alaska is also really low with the state ranking consistently as one of the smallest in the country by population. These factors make it difficult for someone in the state to pursue a computing degree.
There aren’t many choices for students that want an education in software in Alaska. The University of Alaska Fairbanks is the only college or university in the state that offers a degree in computer science.
