Hi,
tveldh>Hi John, coincidentally we're currently discussing a license
tveldh>based on the Perl one. See http://oonumerics.org/blitz/legal/
tveldh>for the blitz version of this. Would this license be compatible
tveldh>with Debian/RedHat? The only stickler might be the bit about
tveldh>not charging a fee without written permission, but I'd be
tveldh>happy to give that to Debian.
Well, the debian people haven't been friendly with me on this.
What is your take on allowing a distribution fee (but only a reasonable
distribution fee) if blitz is included in a bundle of software ? I'm sure
they would go for a statement to that effect. One thing they won't bend
on, is that the license not be just for debian, but for everyone. On the
practical side, you'd have to allow this in order for Debian and RedHat
and resellers to ship it on CD's. The other option is to put it in what
we call 'non-free', which gets the benefit of the archive and automated
bug tracking system, but which does not go on CD's. You'll get better
circulation in the main distribution, however.
Let me know what you decide.
John
