Note that every item on the list could be caught with a sufficiently
sophisicated run-time environment. I saw such a long time ago for C --
it ran on a Zetalisp system.
But evidently, since implementations like that did not take over the market,
these undefined behaviors are not a big deal (in the sense of "willing to pay $$")
in the real world. The exception, of course, is the subset of the
problems caught by Purify. Programmers were willing to pay for that.
My point is that programmers get the best of all worlds that they're willing
to pay for (collectively).
Successful programming languages (and optimization issues) are not about technology,
they are about economics.
