It's not clear. EDG says "export" is a research project. The last time
I discussed the issue with them in detail, it sounded like "export" was
not going to save much compilation time, because some underlying nasty
semantic issues were still there. But since it's research, no one
knows the answer yet.

We are working on a faster optimizer that might improve the compilation-time
issue. On the other hand, we're also working on better optimizations that
take more compilation time :-)
