OON: Modeling, analysis and design tools for scientific small projects .

Dear all,

I have to start a research and SW (C++ and Java) development project on
satellite (GPS) and inertial positioning. The funding organization wants me
to adhere to some modeling, analysis and design methodology to make sure
that all user requirements are met in due time, etc. I have been looking at
UML and Rational UPL, and it seems to me both wonderful though a bit too
expensive and difficult for a 2-3 man year project. Moreover, I feel that a
substantial part of the effort put in standard business modeling can be
skipped since we, mathematicians and engineers, DO have models for our
domain entities since many yaers.

Does anyone know any "lightweight UML/UPL" or similar "lighweight"
methodology/tool available for scientific, small project, SW development?

Thank you,

Ismael Colomina
